Qu’est-ce que c’est ? Un groupe d’humoristes formé en 1988, connu pour ses sketches satiriques, chansons parodiques sur des sujets politiques ou culturels, qui a marqué la culture populaire roumaine. Vacanța Mare was formed as a student hobby group in the late 1980s. At first the group was made up by five, but it was not very popular. After two members left the group, Vacanța Mare started to have shows by the seaside, especially during the summer holidays. In 1992, at a non-professional stand-up comedy contest, the group came in second for the "Burduful de Aur" award, where they were spotted by talent hunter Nicu Dragosin.[1] He determined them to continue their stand-up comedy acts (they wanted to give up their routine at that point), while transforming them from amateurs into a professional group. Romanian Comedy Festival - festCO was established in 2003 by the actor George Mihaita, manager of The Comedy Theatre. The festival was born from the desire to promote Romanian theatre in all its forms, but also to provide a cultural alternative for the citizens of our capital, Bucharest. Abstract: The roots of dark humour, absurd comedy and acid comments about society, considered to be characteristic for European movies, give the themes of some of the most important films of the Romanian “New Wave”. Here we concentrate on three important sources of dark humor in Romanian films: the laugh-cry endemic in Romanian folklore; the tradition of Caragiale, where laugher is used at the limits of tragedy; the absurd theater of Ionescu, with its criticism of society.
