Some of the biggest measures in Pakistan’s upcoming budget may come through sector-specific tax changes affecting energy, transport and consumer costs. According to the budget preview compiled by Topline Securities, the federal government may increase GST on solar panels from 10 percent to 18 percent, which could slow the shift from grid electricity to solar energy. Meanwhile, higher solar costs may benefit power producers by reducing the pace at which consumers move away from the national grid. In the auto sector, the government is also expected to increase GST on hybrid electric vehicles to standard rates. Hybrid vehicles up to 1800cc may see GST rise from 8.5 percent to 18 percent, while larger vehicles could face an increase from 12.75 percent to 25 percent. At the same time, the government is considering a New Energy Vehicle framework aimed at encouraging local assembly of green-energy vehicles. The report also says the government may allocate Rs. 830 billion in power subsidies to manage circular debt and cover tariff differentials, including support for distribution companies and K-Electric. These measures indicate that the budget will focus on balancing revenue generation with industrial policy, though with significant trade-offs for consumers. While cleaner energy and transport remain policy priorities, they may become considerably more expensive under the new tax structure. Source

Trials of Mana Two games from the fantastic Mana series from Square Enix have arrived. Both Legend of Mana and Trials of Mana have been added to the lineup of Square Enix titles now available and DRM-free. Both of these games are great, so I’m very excited to see them here. Canalul Corint este un canal artificial care leagă Golful Corint din Marea Ionică de Golful Saronic din Marea Egee şi separă Peloponezul de restul Greciei. Încă din antichitate conducătorii greci au înţeles necesitate construirii unei căi care să lege cele două destinaţii, dar prima propunere concretă a fost cea a tiranului Periander în sec. al VII-lea î.Hr. Pe fondul dezvoltării romane, Împaratul Iulius Cesar a conceput un plan de construcţie a unui canal prin istmul Corint care să lege Marea Ionică de Marea Egee. În perioada domniei Împăratului Roman Nero (54–68 d.Hr.), aproximativ în cursul anului 67 î.Hr. au început săpăturile la acest proiect, dar lucrările au fost brusc oprite de moartea iniţiatorului. Constructorii vremii au început lucrarea din ambele laturi ale istmului, săpând şanţuri de 40-50 de metri lăţime. În jurul anului 1881, Guvernul din Grecia a reluat construcţia canalului pe traseul ales din Antichitate, folosindu-se de canalele si lucrările anterioare. Aceştia au angajat arhitecţii Canalului Panama pentru a realiza proiectul final si pentru execturarea lucrărilor s-au folosit companii elene de construcţii. Canalul Corint are o lungime de 6343 metri, cu o lăţime care variază între 21 şi 25 de metri, iar adâncimea apei este de peste opt metri. Culoarului navigabil al acestuia este flancat de pereţi de stâncă imenşi, cel mai înalt punct fiind situat la o înălţime de 90 de metri deasupra apei. După deschiderea traficului pe canal, în perioada 1893-1940, acesta a fost închis în mai multe rânduri pentru lucrări de întreţinere şi de stabilizare a pereţilor. Mohan Gupta had never dreamed of becoming a comedian. Born in India and educated in the UK, he trained as engineer and, later, a monk. "I never in my life thought I would make anyone laugh," he says. But a few years ago, after suffering a nervous breakdown, Gupta's doctors prescribed him something unusual: a stand-up comedy course. Laughter has long been linked to a variety of health gains: it can both reduce stress, and increase immunity, focus, and cardiovascular function. Yet research now suggests that not just consuming comedy, but actively creating it – especially in a group setting – can offer significant benefits to mental health in particular. In the UK, new programmes are beginning to use stand-up comedy lessons to help people in distress. They come as part of a larger global movement of social prescribing: a process through which health workers refer patients to non-clinical, community-based resources and activities, as a way to both improve patients' long-term health and reduce pressure on healthcare. Gupta, who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was initially prescribed medication and hospital rest, received his social prescription through a course called Comedy on Referral – a 10-week programme teaching students how to write and perform a 10-minute comedy set about their lives. Launched in 2020, the course was the first of its kind to be funded and prescribed via the NHS. Angie Belcher, the Bristol-based comedian who created and teaches the course, describes her goal as helping her students "find their banana" – their comedic source of pain, whether that's going through a divorce, struggling with parenthood, or recovering from abuse. "Your comedy doesn't come from the nice bits about our lives. It comes from the bits that are difficult," she says. Finding the "funny" in something doesn't mean it's not serious, Belcher adds. "It's about doing what we need to do to get [through those difficult bits]." That's what Gupta says helped him recover from his nervous breakdown and being admitted to hospital. There is insufficient evidence to suggest a social media ban for under‑16s would help keep children safer online, Scotland's children's commissioner has said. Nicola Killean warned a ban could drive children to less regulated or riskier parts of the internet, and said the focus should instead be on holding social media companies to account. She was responding to the UK government's consultation on whether to introduce a minimum age for accessing online platforms, including social media. "A ban does little to address underlying issues such as exploitative algorithms, and business models that drive harmful content and engagement," she said. Ahead of submitting her response, the commissioner's office carried out a children's rights impact assessment examining how the proposals could affect children and young people, both positively and negatively. Her team also worked with a group of young advisers aged between 12 and 17 from across Scotland. "Evidence shows that social media can expose children to serious risks, including harmful content, cyberbullying, manipulation, contact from strangers, exploitation and excessive use," said Killean. But she added that it can also play an important role in children's lives "by supporting communication, self-expression, access to information, participation, play, and connection with communities and support networks". She added: "The evidence so far on bans is limited, mixed, and still emerging. "Blanket restrictions can risk shifting responsibility away from platforms and onto children." Killean also warned a ban could impact on some youngsters more than others. The commissioner said it could more negatively impact those in rural and remote areas, those with family overseas, disabled children and those who rely on online communities for support with their identity. In her recommendations, Killean called for greater focus on platform design and accountability, and a crack-down on harmful features. She also said rules should reflect children's age and maturity, and that young people should be directly involved in shaping future policy. For Crystal Palace, all eyes are now on Andoni Iraola. Will he, or won't he? The glory of Wednesday night's euphoric Conference League win in Leipzig won't fade for some time for supporters. But for those at the heart of the club, the planning for next season will accelerate with almost immediate effect. The first task at hand is to appoint a new head coach. As BBC Sport revealed earlier this month, Iraola is the man Palace want to replace the outgoing Oliver Glasner, who insisted after the triumph in Germany he has no plans to reverse his decision. They have made the Spaniard a proposal and are awaiting his answer, within that are assurances he will be permitted significant influence over the recruitment operation. It is understood Palace want an answer by the end of the weekend. The move is ambitious. Iraola has emerged as one of the brightest managers in European football - Bournemouth's qualification for next season's Europa League illustrative of his impressive body of work. "We have got a taste for it now, we want to keep it going," said owner Steve Parish following the win over Rayo Vallecano. "We have gone up a level and we have got to try and stay there. We will have a week to celebrate and then work hard in the summer." Palace believe they have done all they can to convince Iraola they can provide the platform for him to continue building his reputation. All that is left is Iraola's approval. If the 43-year-old declines then Palace will move on to plan B. Among the alternatives is understood to be Frank Lampard, who has key admirers in the Palace boardroom.
