  1. It's the comedy show with a simple format - try to make everyone else laugh while keeping a straight face yourself. But that's not as easy as it seems when you're locked in a room with nine other top comedians. For Maisie Adam, taking part - and crucially trying not to crack - in Last One Laughing was "absolute torture". The comic, who's currently appearing in season two of the Prime Video show, told BBC Newsbeat about her "nightmare" opponent and how the British comedy scene appears to be having a moment thanks to TV. On Last One Laughing, the comics are given six hours to make their opponents giggle. Laugh or smile once, and you get a yellow card from host Jimmy Carr. If you break twice, it's a red card and you're out. Maisie says the atmosphere is a bit like being at school at the back of the classroom. "You're not meant to be laughing, but you can see all your mates trying to make you laugh, and they've got that twinkle in their eye," she says. "You see them trying to stifle a laugh. It's that, for hours on end." Maisie's rivals this series include comedians Diane Morgan, Mel Giedroyc and Romesh Ranganathan. But she was most nervous about facing returning champion Bob Mortimer, who entered season two to a chorus of dismayed gasps. Maisie says: "When we were doing our interviews beforehand, they were asking: 'Who would be your worst nightmare?' "And we said Bob Mortimer, but thankfully he won't be in. "He smashed it in season one, and because he was on season one none of us thought he'd be in this one." Maisie says Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr was also a fearsome opponent. "Anybody who saw Alan in the Traitors knows he's completely unserious," she says. "He's funny before he even opens his mouth because of the looks he's giving." Last One Laughing has been a hit for Prime Video, ranking at number two in the UK on the streamer's own weekly charts, and winning praise from critics, who've called it "the funniest show on British TV" and "a riot". "It's always special when you get shows of this scale and they're bringing in newer faces," says Maisie. She says it was only "a few years ago" when she and fellow contestant Amy Gledhill were performing in a Leeds club "where the green room is essentially a cupboard with beer barrels as seats". "So it's amazing when you can get spotlighted in that way and you're still breaking through but you're around these huge heritage names," Maisie says. It's also coincided with another big moment for UK comedy - the launch of Saturday Night Live UK (SNL UK). https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1eqzlpv8yno
  2. LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeBron James is ready for contact basketball activity, and he will be re-evaluated by the Los Angeles Lakers’ team physician in one to two weeks as he prepares to begin his unprecedented 23rd NBA season. James has yet to play this season or practice with the Lakers after being shut down early in training camp due to sciatica, a lower-body nerve problem. The next step in his recovery is five-on-five basketball work in practice, but it’s unclear when that could begin because the Lakers are headed out on a five-game road trip beginning Saturday in Atlanta, and James isn’t expected to travel with the team. The 40-year-old James has been working out individually in recent weeks. The Lakers announced James’ progression to contact basketball on Thursday, exactly four weeks after the team initially said the top scorer in NBA history would be re-evaluated in three to four weeks. “We don’t have a target date,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said last week of James’ progress. “It’s just somewhere in that general timeline. We hope that he’s kind of checked all the boxes and is going to be back sometime in that second or third week in November.” If James wants on-court work while the Lakers are on the road, he could conceivably join the Lakers’ G League affiliate at the team’s training complex in El Segundo. The Lakers’ next home game is Nov. 18. The Lakers have played remarkably well in James’ absence, stoking fans’ excitement about being a possible contender six seasons after James and Anthony Davis won the franchise’s 17th championship in the Florida bubble. Luka Doncic scored 35 points while the Lakers held off San Antonio 118-116 on Wednesday night for their fifth consecutive win, including three in four nights. Los Angeles is 7-2 even with James sidelined all season and with Doncic and Austin Reaves missing significant time because of injuries and rest. https://www.nba.com/news/lebron-james-sciatica-update-cleared-basketball-activity

  4. At Omoda & Jaecoo Pakistan, vehicle development doesn’t end at production. It continues long after, shaped by real-world driving, customer feedback, technical evaluation, and constant coordination between international engineering teams. That approach is now reflected in a new update introduced for the Jaecoo J7 SHS in Pakistan. Earlier this year, in January 2026, engineers identified an opportunity to further refine an additional protective shield component as part of ongoing technical assessments. Alongside internal evaluations, feedback from customers also contributed to a broader review of the component. It was part of a routine improvement cycle rather than a response to any specific issue, with the aim of keeping product performance aligned with evolving global standards. By March 2026, after internal review, global field insights, and close coordination with the engineering team in China, a refined solution was finalized for implementation. From 15 May 2026 onwards, all Jaecoo J7 SHS vehicles dispatched from the plant in Faisalabad, Pakistan are being equipped with the updated protective shield from the factory. For existing owners, the update is offered free of cost through the authorized dealership network. Omoda & Jaecoo’s technical and aftersales teams will directly engage with customers to manage installation scheduling and support, aiming to keep the process simple and accessible. Customer voice shaping refinement Feedback from Jaecoo J7 SHS owners across multiple markets has also played a meaningful role in shaping this update. While the vehicle has been well received for its hybrid technology, safety features, and driving experience, ongoing user insights have helped engineering teams fine-tune specific components as part of continuous improvement. A quieter kind of commitment In a market where product conversations often focus on features and performance figures, this kind of update says something else. It points to how ownership is being treated as an ongoing relationship rather than a one-time transaction. The idea is simple: if something can be improved, and it benefits customers, it should be done without hesitation or added burden on the owner. The Jaecoo J7 SHS continues to draw attention in Pakistan’s emerging new energy vehicle space. Its blend of hybrid technology, safety-focused engineering, and driving experience has made it one of the more prominent SUVs in its category. This update puts a focus on continuous refinement and customer confidence over time. Seen in this light, it also sets a practical benchmark for customer service that other new automotive entrants in Pakistan can learn from as the market continues to mature. Source
  5. A total of 219 people have been injured in clashes between football fans and police across France after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) won the Champions League final against Arsenal. Eight were in a serious condition, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said. Thousands of officers were deployed to curb unrest that disrupted bus, train and rail services in the capital, Paris. Fifty-seven of them were injured. Nuñez said 780 people had been arrested over the violence - with more than 450 in custody. A person was found dead after an accident on Paris's ring road, which rioters tried to block overnight. Some 6,000 police have been mobilised for Sunday's victory parade at the site of the Eiffel Tower. The interior minister said the security forces would be "firm" in their response. "We are a great country for maintaining public order. We allow freedom of assembly, but not excesses," he said. There was similar violence when PSG won the same trophy last year, with celebrations turning deadly. Thousands of officers had been deployed this time to curb unrest that disrupted bus, train and rail services in Paris. The vast Champs-Élysées was swarmed by fans shortly after the local team won in a penalty shootout. Footage shows flares being set off, electric bikes burning on roads and revellers smashing the glass of at least one shopfront. Police fired tear gas to disperse crowds in the city centre. Paris police made 480 arrests, with 277 taken into custody, including 82 minors. The figures were provisional, the Paris prosecutor's office said. It added that offences ranged from attacks on officers to attacks on property, theft, as well as illegal possession of weapons. The circumstances surrounding the death of the 24-year-old near Porte Maillot in the Paris ring road remain unclear. Some witnesses said he was riding a motorcycle when he crashed into concrete blocks. A teenager was also in critical condition following a brawl in another area of Paris. It is not clear if they were involved in the football-related rioting. "The vast majority go out to celebrate and it goes very well," the French interior minister said on Sunday. "But other individuals, who are not PSG supporters, who don't even watch the match, come to cause trouble and disturbances. We are here to prevent them from doing so. Our response is very firm." Far-right leader Marine Le Pen wrote on X: "Only in France does a football club's victory spark riots." "Only in France does everyone feel compelled to lock themselves in their homes on the evening of a victory to avoid being confronted with violence," she said. Players are due to take part in the victory parade later on Sunday. It includes touring the Champ-de-Mars next to the Eiffel Tower and a reception held by French President Emmanuel Macron. 6. The Fletcher family were due to go to the World Cup as fans this summer. It was a chance to clear the mind after a frustrating end to the season, in which dad Darren's Manchester United Under-18 team lost two major cup finals, and twin sons Tyler and Jack were beaten in another. But, after just two senior substitute appearances, totalling 17 minutes, 16 of which came on the final day of the Premier League season at Brighton, Manchester United's Tyler Fletcher has got the World Cup call from Scotland manager Steve Clarke. Instead of joining Darren and Jack in the stands as the family travel around the United States to watch Scotland's matches, Tyler will now be part of Clarke's squad. It is a quite incredible turn of events, reminiscent of when United's Norman Whiteside was called into Northern Ireland World Cup squad in 1982, also after just two senior appearances. Clarke's shock choice says everything about the professionalism, diligence and work ethic Fletcher showed in training. That is what earned him a place on the bench for Saturday's pre-tournament friendly with Curacao after he was called into Clarke's training camp last week, mainly to get an indication of what is required at international level. Once there, Fletcher made a hugely positive impression on Scotland's coaches. Then, when Billy Gilmour suffered the first-half injury that had such devastating personal consequences for the Napoli man, Fletcher was only held back as his immediate replacement through an element of caution on Clarke's part. Fletcher's performance when he did come on at half-time was full of maturity. This did not come as a surprise to any of the youth coaches who have worked with him at United. After starting the season slightly behind twin brother Jack, who has opted to play for England's youth teams and appeared against - and beat - Tyler's Scotland in a Under-19s European Championship qualifier in November, it was the Scot who ended up in front. Tyler was crowned United's Under-21 player of the year, receiving the award just before the first team played Nottingham Forest in their final home game of the campaign two weeks ago, hours after he and his brother started the Premier League 2 final loss to Brighton.. Dad Darren's under-18s also ended an encouraging campaign with the frustration of losing both the FA Youth Cup and Premier League Under-18s finals. Tyler was named on the bench for 11 of United's last 14 games, having initially been called up by Ruben Amorim for the home win over Newcastle on 26 December, a game Jack played in. Tyler's debut came as a last-minute replacement for Kobbie Mainoo against Tottenham at Old Trafford on 7 February. He was the first academy player manager Michael Carrick gave a debut to. Both excellent long distance runners as well as footballers in their primary school days, Tyler and Jack have tended to be viewed as a pair. Though they have taken strength from each other's presence as they have come through the ranks - initially at Manchester City before switching to United in 2023 - they are very much individuals, which goes beyond the beard Tyler grew which helped to tell the difference between them. Often picked together in United's midfield at Under-21 level this season, Tyler is more of a number six or number eight. His brother plays slightly higher up the pitch. Darren, capped 80 times by Scotland, but who never played in a major tournament, has evidently been a key presence in shaping their respective careers. Time and again the duo are described as having similar traits to their dad, including, simply, "being really good lads". However, Fletcher senior was also keen to ensure his sons progressed beyond under-18 level before he agreed to take the job this season to avoid any conflicts of interest. Those who know Tyler say is he a confident, driven young man, but equally very low maintenance. "Polite and conscientious" is how he has been described. Physically, it has been noted he has settled down, which is key at an age where development is not complete and can come in surges. Professional development has also been impressive. Twelve months to the day before his international bow, Tyler was making the second of two brief appearances for United in the final game of their controversial post-season tour of Asia. It says plenty about his assimilation into the senior ranks, and his performances in his frequent call-ups to training sessions by Carrick that Tyler was invited to the end-of-season squad dinner, arranged by skipper Bruno Fernandes, after the Forest game. United coaches feel in addition to his stamina and athletic prowess, which they expect to grow as the months go on, Fletcher's all-round game has improved significantly. They believe his ability on the ball, vision and understanding of the game means he will become more versatile as the years go on. Fletcher has slowly been getting used to playing men's football. In the first half of the campaign, it was for the under-21 side at places like Brackley, Solihull and Tamworth in the National League Cup, or Lincoln, Barnsley and Notts County in the EFL Trophy. The appearance at Brighton alongside Shea Lacey confirmed Carrick, who has watched numerous Premier League 2 games in person, views him as one of the academy players most ready to make the big step up. A week ago, the next stage for Fletcher was expected to be as one of the youngsters who will form the core of the group Carrick will take to Helsinki for United's first pre-season game against Wrexham on 18 July, the day before the World Cup final, and the trip to Rosenborg in Norway the following week. Those plans might have to be shelved. Fletcher may have other, even more pressing commitments in July now. "The best day of my life," was how Fletcher described his first-team debut in February. That might have dropped down to number two in his rankings. Legătură: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c2027l0w550o

10. Marc Cucurella praised Chelsea's fighting spirit as they ended their dreadful Premier League run and provided a tactical blueprint for next week's FA Cup final. The struggling Blues faced the prospect of becoming the first team in English football history to lose seven consecutive league matches heading into a Wembley showpiece when they fell 1-0 behind at Liverpool. It felt bleak when Ryan Gravenberch curled home a sixth-minute opener, but Chelsea hit back to level when Enzo Fernandez's free-kick drifted in. With Manchester City up next in the FA Cup final on Saturday, left-back Cucurella said his side had to show the same drive and determination if they were to end a troubled season with silverware. "I think the effort today was really good," he told TNT Sports. "I don't think it was probably our best moments, but we showed if we play together then we have a good level. "We are happy that we showed we're a really good team if we put in the effort and fight together. Hopefully we can win a bit of confidence from this game because next week we have a massive game." These have been depressing weeks for Chelsea. They slipped disappointingly out of the race for a Champions League place, boss Liam Rosenior departed amid suggestions the players had stopped responding to his managerial approach, and were beaten 3-1 at home by relegation-battling Nottingham Forest in interim head coach Calum McFarlane's first game in charge. Simply put, McFarlane needed to stop the bleeding and did so with a performance that had his side applauded off by the away support at Anfield. It may also have revealed a potential approach to take into a season‑defining game against City, even if Pep Guardiola's side will start as favourites and pose a greater challenge than Liverpool. 'Leader' Colwill brings calm in defensive switch Levi Colwill touchmap graphic Image source,BBC Sport Image caption, Colwill completed 65 of his 73 passes on Saturday McFarlane lined Chelsea up in a back three for the first time during his interim spell, and for only the fourth time overall this season. Under Rosenior, they lost twice against Premier League opposition using the system and only narrowly overcame Wrexham in the FA Cup. There was little to suggest the shape - never used by Enzo Maresca during his 18‑month spell in charge - would prove effective. However, the return of defender Levi Colwill for his first start in 10 months, since the Fifa Club World Cup final, brought composure in possession and greater stability when building from the back. "I thought Levi was the best player on the pitch," said McFarlane. "He gives you the ability to play out from the back, he's a leader and that was his first 90 minutes in a long time." The 23-year-old England centre-back returned alongside Wesley Fofana, who had previously been left out by McFarlane, in a partnership he enjoys. Dutchman Jorrel Hato was also recalled after being one of the few Chelsea players to perform consistently during a difficult run. The system also allowed Cucurella to push higher as an attacking wing‑back, exploiting makeshift Liverpool full-back Curtis Jones on that side. Cole Palmer, who has struggled for form, was also brighter and went close to ending a goalless run in club football that now stretches to 10 games with an effort ruled out for a marginal offside against Cucurella. It offered a constructive solution for a side without four senior wingers, and forced to include two academy players - 17‑year‑old attackers Mathis Eboue and Ryan Kavuma‑McQueen - on the bench. Chelsea are hopeful Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto will be back to face City, while captain Reece James also made his first appearance in almost a month as a substitute. Last summer Chelsea could point to victories over the champions of Spain, Italy, England and France en route to Club World Cup success against Paris St‑Germain - evidence they can win one‑off games against elite opposition. The Premier League picture, however, remains bleak for a side that were expected to at least qualify for the Champions League by their own hierarchy, with fifth place out of reach. Chelsea remain without a clean sheet in 14 Premier League matches - their longest such run since a 15‑game streak between March and May 1979 - and have won just one of their last 11 top‑flight games. After the dismal defeat by a second‑string Forest side, McFarlane struck a more positive tone, adding: "We got the reaction we wanted and hopefully we can build on that. "It was a good point and a good performance. It was a game that could have gone either way. We had moments to win it, which was disappointing in that respect, but it was a much‑improved performance and I'm pleased." With the 1-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, McFarlane has proved he can set up a side capable of performing under pressure - and that is something that may yet prove a stepping stone towards lifting the trophy. This was the upturn in performance Chelsea badly needed. After a six-match losing run in the league, this felt like a small step in the right direction. Fan protests are planned on Wembley Way before next weekend's FA Cup final against Manchester City, but at least Chelsea will not go into that game on the back of another defeat. If the losing cycle had continued at Anfield, it would have meant Chelsea suffering seven consecutive league defeats for only the second time in their history, and for the first time for 74 years. They would also have become the first team in English football history to lose seven matches heading into an FA Cup final. It was crucial, therefore, to stem the bleeding in a bleak spell that has already cost former head coach Liam Rosenior his job. Monday's 3-1 defeat by a second-string Nottingham Forest side was a dismal way for interim head coach Calum McFarlane to mark his first league match in charge. McFarlane can, however, point to a number of positives. He earned his first victory of this second spell in charge in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds at Wembley and, now at Anfield - albeit against another side struggling for form - his selection decisions were largely vindicated. The return of centre-back Levi Colwill, making his first appearance for 10 months, coincided with Chelsea switching to a back three for just the third time this season. Chelsea conceded from Liverpool's first shot of the match and briefly lost their way, but they recovered to equalise deservedly. It was not a vintage performance, but it was an improvement and something to build on. The decision to focus attacks down the left through Marc Cucurella paid dividends, Cole Palmer showed signs of rediscovering form within the system, and it helped Chelsea manage an attacking injury crisis, with four wingers currently out. Chelsea remain just about in the hunt for European football, though there is plenty of work to do in their remaining two Premier League matches. More importantly, they now have something to cling to before the cup final, even if Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side remain strong favourites. Link

Link
