FIFA has confirmed that Gianluca Prestianni’s suspension has been extended worldwide following UEFA’s original disciplinary ruling. The Benfica winger was initially banned for six matches (three suspended) after an incident involving Vinícius Júnior during a Champions League play-off match against Real Madrid. The situation escalated after Vinícius accused Prestianni of discriminatory behaviour, an allegation the player has strongly denied. FIFA’s disciplinary committee ruled that the sanction will apply globally, meaning the player is now set to miss additional major fixtures beyond European competition. As a result, Prestianni could also be unavailable for Argentina’s opening matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
