Originally, the bow and arrow were developed thousands of years ago as tools for hunting and warfare. Ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, Mongols, and Chinese used archery extensively in military battles and daily survival. Over time, as firearms replaced bows in warfare during the 16th century, archery gradually transitioned from a weapon-based activity into a recreational sport. By the 19th century, organized archery clubs started appearing in countries like England and the United States, and formal competitions were introduced.
