Rugby Returned to the Olympic Games After Nearly a Century

Rugby was originally played in the early Olympic Games but was later removed from the program for many decades. The sport made its return at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the faster Rugby Sevens format, which features seven players per team instead of fifteen. The governing body World Rugby helped promote this version because it fits better with the Olympic schedule and attracts new fans worldwide.
