*The term “Super Bowl” wasn’t originally official — it came from a toy!

When the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL) were merging in the 1960s, the championship game between the two league champions needed a name. AFL owner Lamar Hunt reportedly got the idea from his children’s Super Ball toy — and started calling the title game the Super Bowl. That name stuck and eventually became the official name of the NFL championship game.
