Did you know that China operates the world’s largest network of “ghost cities” designed years before people move in?

Unlike abandoned cities elsewhere, many Chinese ghost cities are intentional urban projects built in advance to absorb future migration. Some, like Ordos Kangbashi, stayed nearly empty for years before slowly filling as populations caught up.
