The Danakil Depression is one of the hottest and most otherworldly places on Earth, sitting 125 meters below sea level. Its landscape is filled with neon-colored hot springs, salt flats, active volcanoes, and sulfur pools created by tectonic activity. Despite the extreme heat, the area is home to unique microorganisms and is mined for salt by local Afar communities who continue ancient traditions.

The Danakil Depression teaches us that beauty can exist even in the most extreme environments.
