Morocco created the feat on Sunday night in Santiago, Chile, by beating Argentina 2-0 in the final of the U20 World Cup.

Thanks to a brace from Yassir Zabiri in the 12th and 29th minutes, the Atlas Cubs dominated Argentina, six-time champions of the competition.

The victory, obtained in front of 43,000 spectators, is a turning point for Moroccan football. It is the first time that Morocco has won this tournament, after eliminating France in the semi-finals on penalties (1-1, 5-4 penalty). This victory in the final against Argentina, the tournament favourites, marks the culmination of an exceptional journey.

King Mohammed VI hailed the historic victory, calling the journey of the young Moroccans "heroic". This title is also a second title for Africa in the history of the U20 World Cup, after Ghana in 2009.

This success reinforces Morocco's position as a great football nation. After finishing fourth at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals, the country continues to confirm its rise. Morocco will host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
