Königssee, located in the Berchtesgaden National Park, is often called Germany’s most beautiful lake. Surrounded by steep alpine cliffs and crystal-clear emerald waters, it looks like a mirror reflecting the peaks of the Bavarian Alps. The lake is known for its iconic red-domed St. Bartholomew’s Church, which can only be reached by an electric boat crossing the calm waters. The echo demonstration given by boat captains, where a trumpet call reverberates between the mountains, is a magical experience. It’s also the gateway to some of the most spectacular hiking routes in southern Germany.
