  2. PCB Launches Major Recovery Drive Over Billions in Unpaid PSL Dues Recently, notices were sent to several entities, including early PSL franchises, clearly stating that contracts would be terminated if payments were not cleared by April 29. Following the notices, several franchises deposited their full dues. At the same time, the franchises themselves are still waiting to receive around Rs. 400 million each related to the 10th edition of the PSL. When officials were questioned about the unpaid amount owed to franchises, they responded that payment of franchise fees is mandatory under the agreement. Officials added, “How can we pay you until we receive payments from other stakeholders?” SOURCE
  3. Pakistan Return to Hockey World Cup After 8 Years With Epic Comeback Win Pakistan struck first to take an early 1–0 lead, but Japan turned the match around and surged to a 3–1 advantage, putting the Men in Green under serious pressure. Pakistan’s forwards then mounted a late rally, first bringing the score back to 3–3 before delivering the decisive blow with a late strike to clinch the win. The victory not only sent Pakistan hockey team into the final of the qualifying tournament, but also confirmed their spot at next year’s World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands, ending an eight-year wait to return to the global stage. Pakistan last qualified for the event in 2018 and missed the most recent edition. SOURCE

  6. CNTI Ethical Principles and AI Policy Four ethical principles guide all of CNTI’s work: Accountability: As researchers, we are accountable for our work. All authors whose names appear on reports take full responsibility for the work. Transparency: As researchers, we explain our work so that our colleagues and readers can understand how we arrived at our conclusions. That also makes it possible for others to replicate our work. All CNTI research contains detailed information on our methods under headers like “how we did this” or “about this study.” We always include information about all resources used for research, including tools, software, vendors and external sources. Beneficence: As researchers, we are responsible for minimizing risks and maximizing benefits to participants. For the types of research we conduct, data breaches are the most likely risk. Participants’ information is anonymized before it is shared outside the research team, including with AI tools. The process varies with the methods but can include the use of pseudonyms, data aggregation, and other procedures that protect the privacy of research participants. Independence: As researchers, we are independent of outside interests. We declare our funding sources and ensure that there are no conflicts of interest in our work. Our professional staff make all consequential decisions. SOURCE
  7. Newsroom Policies for AI in Journalism AI governance is a complex ecosystem, incorporating policy instruments ranging from global compacts and legally binding domestic regulation to best practice standards and industry guidelines.1 In December 2025, CNTI published a review of 188 governmental policy instruments and their impact on journalism, with a primary focus on legally binding legislation in various states of approval.2 SOURCE
  8. Takeaways from the India AI Impact Summit I recently attended the @IndiaAI Summit in New Delhi on behalf of @CNTI. Over five days, the summit reflected a clear sense of ambition. The scale has expanded significantly from the early global AI gatherings just a few years ago. At Bharat Mandapam, the main venue of the summit, themes such as “sovereignty,” “middle power,” and “democratization” reverberated through crowded halls. Startups and major technology companies showcased new deployments in maze-like pavilions, and high-profile commitments were unveiled in carefully staged ceremonies. The political will behind India’s AI push was evident, and it was encouraging to see key policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and users networking together in the same space. SOURCE
  9. US Indie Info Providers: Professionally Diverse, Mission-driven, Sometimes Lonely, Rarely Earning Profit As of September 2024, about one in five people in the United States get news from individuals rather than organizations. This trend is even more common among younger people. There have always been news sources beyond institutional legacy media. Zines, alt-weeklies and blogs have provided alternatives, as have publications serving immigrant, queer, Black and other minoritized communities. Somewhat more recently, YouTube inaugurated the current era of platforms. Still, the current swell of interest in indie media and the rapid rise of new entrants feel new. SOURCE
  10. Internet Shutdowns, Press Freedom and the Global Information Crisis: Iran as a Case Study On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, press freedom, which has been declining worldwide and across government structures for more than a decade, worsened in 2025, with no sign of changing course so far in 2026. Closely tied to these trends is a 15-year decline in internet freedom, as both authoritarian regimes — as well as a number of democracies — have been increasing their control over digital spaces (see our aggregated data resource). Press freedom and internet freedom are interconnected. For example, journalists who use online environments to bypass conventional press censorship are being prosecuted; independent media’s access to country-specific domains is being blocked; and certain websites and social media platforms are being filtered by governments.
