The AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB arrives as the far better and more attractive mainstream GPU option — the one the market has been waiting for. Nvidia still reigns as the performance champion at the top, but the further down the stack you go, the less attractive Team Green’s offerings become. Witness the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, two GPUs that frequently become hamstrung by insufficient VRAM. How does AMD’s latest card stand up to the best graphics cards, and where does it sit in the pantheon of the GPU benchmarks? That’s what we’re here to find out. We’re fleshing out the major offerings for the current generation of GPUs from all three vendors with today’s RX 9060 XT review. Along with AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs, we’ve tested all the initial onslaught of Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, plus Intel’s two (for now) Arc Battlemage GPUs. That doesn’t mean there won’t be mid-cycle refresh GPUs like last generation's RTX 40-series Super cards, but those generally slot into the existing structure without shaking things up too much. If those cards do happen — and they probably will — they’re likely to arrive in early-to-mid 2026. Many have noticed that our standalone RTX 5060 review didn’t happen, and there are good reasons for that. Jarred has left the building, and while he’s helped us put together this one final hurrah, timing and a lack of direct sampling from Nvidia delayed the testing of that card. So, today’s review marks a two-for-one special of sorts — three-for-one if you want to also count the lackluster RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, which we also had to purchase for testing. AMD’s launch pricing for the RX 9060 XT officially sits at a base of $299 for the 8GB card, and $349 for the 16GB variant. The good thing about being a few days late to the launch party is that we can actually reflect on retail prices. Right now, the 8GB models are relatively available at $299. The 16GB cards are in much higher demand, and rightly so, with the lowest currently available prices starting at $389. These are still early prices, however, so it’s possible we’ll see the base 16GB prices eventually dip back to AMD’s recommended $349. The 16GB card has a 10W higher base power rating, as well as double the VRAM. The added power means that the 16GB card should never be slower compared to the 8GB model (other than margin of error), and in more demanding games it could prove significantly faster. What’s the direct competition for the RX 9060 XT? Is it Nvidia’s similarly priced (for the 9060 XT 8GB) RTX 5060, or is AMD going after the higher performance RTX 5060 Ti and undercutting Nvidia’s pricing by $80? The latter seems the more likely target, and we don’t have the 8GB AMD card for testing (yet), so we can’t make a direct comparison between the $299 parts. In terms of raw specs, AMD offers slightly more FP32 compute than the RTX 5060 Ti — and slightly more AI compute as well, since RDNA 4 has added native INT4 support. That’s a bit apples and oranges, and Intel only has native FP16 or INT8 support, but we’ll see how things fare when we get to the benchmarks. One area where Nvidia does hold a decided advantage is in raw memory bandwidth. The Blackwell architecture uses GDDR7 memory, clocked at 28 Gbps for the 5060-class GPUs. That’s 40% faster than the GDDR6 20 Gbps memory used by AMD RDNA 4 and Intel Battlemage GPUs. But raw bandwidth isn’t the only important factor; cache and caching algorithms also play a role, and potentially memory timing as well, so it’s possible AMD’s 9060 XT will be able to keep pace despite the raw bandwidth deficit. Again, we’ll see how things play out in the benchmarks. Power differences have shrunk with this generation, as AMD and Nvidia are now basically using the same TSMC process node. Technically, AMD even has a slight node lead, since it’s using N4P while Nvidia uses the vanilla 4N (basically N4). Intel uses the slightly older N5 node for Battlemage. Fears of new U.S. tariffs on Chinese-made 3D printers may have caused shipments of consumer-level 3D printers to surge in the first quarter of 2025, according to data gathered by market intelligence firm CONTEXT. The report shows that buyers are opting for less expensive, high-performance machines, such as those from Bambu Lab, over more costly professional and industrial machines. CONTEXT generously defines entry-level 3D printers as those under $2500, which would include po[CENSORED]r printers like the Bambu Lab X1C, plus the A1 and P1 series. The H2D without a laser would squeak in at this level, though the full laser combo we reviewed would be pushed into the Professional category. The company’s latest report on Q1 data shows more than one million “entry-level” machines were shipped worldwide from January to March of this year. This represents a 15% year-over-year increase, while industrial shipments were down 17% and midrange pro machines were down 13% the last 12 months. This shows a clear shift in buying habits, as another market intelligence company, Mordor Intelligence, suggests that Additive Manufacturing as a whole is growing. Mordor Intelligence reports that the global 3D Printing market reached $25.32 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow to $66.42 billion by 2030. Desktop 3D printing – where consumer-level 3D printers reside – is a sizable part of the equation, reaching $6.7 billion in 2025. Among these so-called entry-level brands, Chinese companies accounted for 95% of the machines shipped globally. Creality maintained its position as the market leader in this category with a 39% share, even though its unit sales dipped by 3%. Bambu Lab saw the most growth, with shipments up 64% year-over-year. The report stated that Flashforge and Elegoo also posted strong gains. Elegoo refused to comment on their sales numbers, citing confidentiality. Prusa Research, well known as a supporter of the consumer 3D printing community, straddles the line, with two of their machines crossing into the pro/industrial side: the Prusa XL and the Prusa Pro HT90. The latter machine is a $10,000 delta specifically for engineering-grade materials. But the company is very confident that the Prusa CORE One, released towards the end of Q1, will shake up the entry-level category. “We knew from the start that the CORE One was going to shake things up in this category and claim the crown. It’s affordable, prints fantastic quality from PLA and PETG even with the closed door, and handles tough materials like PC and ASA better than a lot of more expensive machines. So honestly, it’s no surprise we’re seeing double-digit growth year-on-year.”3D printing isn’t just becoming more widely adopted. The Mordor Intelligence report found that using 3D printers for prototyping parts was only 42% of the reason companies use additive manufacturing. This suggests that companies are embracing 3D printing for manufacturing finished parts. The medical industry is using resin 3D printing more and more to produce dental implants and surgical guides, while power bed fusion is being used in the automotive and aerospace industries. Companies are using 3D printing to manufacture personalized goods, and we’re not just talking about a mug with your name on it. Microsoft insists Windows 11 update didn't break SSDs – but confusion remains as reports of drive failures continue to circulate Microsoft has finished its investigation into reports of an SSD-breaking bug The company said the August update for Windows 11 isn't to blame There are still reports of drive failures filtering in, though, and some folks aren't happy with Microsoft's conclusion Microsoft has been investigating reports of the most recent Windows 11 update breaking some SSDs, and we now have the results of that endeavor – and the company found the August patch for the OS isn't to blame. Bleeping Computer reports that Microsoft posted a service alert on its admin center (a link that can't be reached for normal Microsoft accounts, only business accounts) stating the following: "After thorough investigation, Microsoft has found no connection between the August 2025 Windows security update and the types of hard drive failures reported on social media." Microsoft added: "As always, we continue to monitor feedback after the release of every Windows update, and will investigate any future reports." Note that Microsoft mentions "hard drive failures", and this is because the problem has hit hard disks too, based on reports – although the majority of incidents have affected SSDs. Microsoft has worked with its partners in investigating the issue, including SSD (and hard drive) makers as you might expect, but collaboratively they've turned up no evidence of a connection between the most recent update for Windows 11 24H2 and the reported drive failures. Indeed, we already heard directly from Phison, which makes controllers for SSDs which reports have suggested are more likely to be involved in these failures, refuting that notion, and stating clearly that it couldn't reproduce the bug (across 4,500 hours of testing). Microsoft further clarifies that its Windows 11 telemetry – diagnostic data taken from computers running its OS – doesn't show any evidence of an increase in drive failures, either. Analysis: coincidence and 'natural' drive failures - or something else? In short: there's nothing to see here, move along. Based on Microsoft's investigation – which took a while, so I'm assuming went into some depth (Phison's certainly did) – the Windows 11 August update is not responsible for breaking SSDs or hard drives (and neither are Phison controllers). The problem is that there are still a fair few Windows 11 users posting across online forums, such as Reddit, insisting that they've had their SSD sunk by this most recent update for Windows 11. Then again, there are others posting about managing fleets of PCs and seeing nothing with this cumulative update having been applied – not even a hint of a drive failure across those computers. So, what's going on? One theory being aired is that it could be coincidence – drive failures happen all the time, and so in any given week, some Windows 11 PCs will see some breakages in this respect. And because there are reports of the August update being the problem, folks will assume that it's at fault, when it isn't. However, you could certainly argue that there are too many reports for this to be a comfortable conclusion. Furthermore, if it was a case of erroneously pinning natural drive failures down to the issue, it would also point to older hardware being affected – as failures are more likely to happen with aged SSDs – but there are reports of new (or nearly new) drives getting hit by this bug. There is another possibility here that, even given Microsoft's statement that there's nothing overtly wrong with Windows 11, there could still be something about the August update – buried deep, perhaps – that's somehow making a hardware fault in certain drives more likely to occur. In other words, this wouldn't necessarily be Microsoft's fault, but it might still relate indirectly to the update. However, with Microsoft and Phison seemingly unable to reproduce the bug over a whole load of testing, this seems rather unlikely. Which brings us back round to: what's going on with these reports still trickling out? There's no clear answer here, but there are clearly some unhappy people posting online about their SSD woes. It's worth going back over the apparent cause of the bug, which is initiating a large file copy – like a game installation, for example. As Bleeping Computer points out, the glitch seems to be more likely to happen if your drive is over half full (60% or more). Going by reports, the affected SSD is vanishing off the system – though in some cases it returns after a simple reboot (in others, it doesn't, which is obviously a big headache). Windows 11 Home users can only put off installing a cumulative update for a short while, so they're going to get it piped through to their machine eventually, if they've been trying to avoid it. At that point, it's up to the individual user how confident they feel if they want to carry out a hefty file operation like the installation of a chunky game or app. If they're still paranoid, and their drive is nearly full, they might just want to play it safe for now. Microsoft notes it may "investigate any future reports", so we may yet hear more from the company; but for the time being, it appears to want to draw a line under the matter. And for now, we have to trust the conclusions of Microsoft and Phison – although evidently there are people out there who remain skeptical, and feel that we still haven't got to the bottom of this episode. Windows 11 has a new feature for Android mobiles in test builds It allows for the syncing of the PC clipboard directly to the phone This ability is snappy and responsive based on early testing Windows 11 is getting a fresh ability for those who've linked their Android phone to their PC, namely a feature that allows for the clipboard of the desktop operating system to be synced to the mobile device. Windows Latest discovered the functionality in a recent Windows 11 preview build (from the Dev channel), then enabled and tested it. It works via the Link to Windows app, so you'll need to have that set up on your smartphone, and then the feature can be turned on in Windows 11's settings. The only other sti[CENSORED]tion is you also need to be using the same Microsoft account on the PC and mobile. If that's the case, when you enable 'Access PC's clipboard' in the Mobile Devices panel in the Settings app (and you've turned on clipboard history), whatever's in the clipboard on your PC will be transferred to your Android clipboard. Windows Latest observes that the feature works seamlessly and very quickly. The tech site tried copying a lump of text on their Windows 11 PC and it was "immediately" available for pasting in the Gboard keyboard on their Android phone. Accessing the clipboard is possible across any keyboard app, the site further notes, not just Gboard. Also, note that this is just for Android smartphones, not iPhones (at least not yet anyway). Analysis: Microsoft is beefing up Windows 11's phone powers in a big way It's good to see this clipboard syncing capability inbound for Windows 11, assuming it makes it through testing (and I don't see why it wouldn't). Windows Latest tested the feature multiple times and found it worked well, and moreover it was very snappy in transferring over clipboard text. That could be a real timesaver when you have something on your PC that you'd normally, say, email across to yourself to access on your phone. Instead, you can just highlight and copy that text on the PC, and it'll be right there on your smartphone ready for pasting by the time you pick up the mobile. Microsoft has been busy trying to build out the integration of smartphones with Windows 11 in the recent past, as you may have noticed. That includes ushering in a panel floating off the side of the Start menu bristling with phone-related details (and recent activity from your mobile), and the ability to lock your PC remotely with your phone, to pick out a couple of the more interesting introductions this year.
