It usually lasts for about 15 days and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The festival commemorates the goddess Durga defeating the demon Mahishasura. During Dashain, families gather together, elders give blessings and tika (a mixture of rice, yogurt, and vermilion) to younger relatives, and people fly kites and enjoy traditional foods.
