Originally launched as Android Wear, it was later rebranded to Wear OS to reflect its broader ecosystem compatibility. It is primarily used in smartwatches from companies like Samsung, Fossil, and other Android device manufacturers.

Wear OS allows users to receive notifications, reply to messages, track health data, use voice assistants, and run apps directly from their wrists. A major feature of Wear OS is its integration with Google services such as Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Pay. It also supports fitness tracking features like heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and step counting.

A big turning point for Wear OS came when Google partnered with Samsung to merge Tizen’s wearable expertise into Wear OS, significantly improving performance, battery life, and user experience. Modern versions of Wear OS offer smoother animations, better app optimization, and improved customization options for watch faces.

Wear OS plays an important role in the wearable technology market by competing directly with Apple’s watchOS, offering Android users a powerful smartwatch alternative.
