Thanks to the Source Engine’s flexibility, players created countless custom game modes such as Zombie Escape, Surf, Bunny Hop (BHOP), Jailbreak, and Deathrun. These community-made modes extended the game’s lifespan far beyond standard competitive play. Many of these ideas later inspired official modes or standalone games.
