Fixing “Windows Stuck on Black Screen with Cursor” Error

This error happens when Windows loads but the desktop shell (Explorer) fails to start.

Step-by-step tutorial:

Open Task Manager

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

If it opens, click File → Run new task.

Restart Windows Explorer

Type:

explorer.exe

Press Enter.

If the desktop appears, the issue is temporary.

Check Display Driver

In Task Manager, click File → Run new task.

Type:

devmgmt.msc

Expand Display adapters → right-click your GPU → Uninstall device → Restart PC.

Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Disable Fast Startup

Press Win + R, type:

powercfg.cpl

Go to Choose what the power buttons do → Change settings currently unavailable.

Uncheck Turn on fast startup → Save.

Repair User Profile (Advanced)

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

sfc /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Why this works:
The black screen issue is often caused by a broken Explorer process, GPU driver conflict, or corrupted system image.
