These versions were not full operating systems—they ran on top of MS-DOS.

Windows 1.0 (1985)

First GUI from Microsoft

Basic applications: Calculator, Notepad, Paint

Very simple tiled windows (no overlapping)

Windows 2.x (1987)

Improved graphics

Better UI, File Manager, Program Manager

Windows 3.11 introduced networking support.
