[Software] Google Chrome fixes 13 vulnerabilities affecting billions of users: update NOW

Search giant Google is fully aware of the importance of one of its most significant and relevant projects: the Chrome browser. Hence the almost constant updates it releases periodically, as is the case here.

This is especially important when it's an update specifically focused on fixing security flaws, as is happening now. We're telling you all this because you should update the browser that most of you have installed on your computers right now. The main reason for this is that Google has been forced to fix a total of 13 security issues affecting billions of users of the program.

At the same time, it's crucial to note that four of these vulnerabilities are classified as high severity. One of them was found in Chrome's Digital Credentials feature. This is a tool that allows us to share verified information from our digital wallet with websites, so we can prove our identity across different devices.

As usual, Google keeps vulnerability information secret until most users update. This allows a remote attacker who has compromised the rendering process to exploit the vulnerability through a mani[CENSORED]ted HTML page.

For those who don't know, the rendering process is the part of modern browsers like Chrome that converts HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code into the visible web page you see in a tab. For security, it's isolated, separate from the main browser process that manages tabs, URLs, and network requests. Therefore, for HTML pages, this is essentially the web page rendering engine in the browser.

That's why a remote attacker who has compromised the renderer, for example, through a malicious extension, can redirect you to a website containing HTML code specifically designed to infect your PC.

 

How to update Chrome to make it secure
Given that Chrome is the most po[CENSORED]r browser in the world, with approximately 3.4 billion users, this update becomes especially important. When a program has a security flaw of this magnitude, billions of users are potentially vulnerable until they update. That's why it's so important to install these patches as soon as possible.

Otherwise, we could be at risk simply by browsing the web. Not only that, attackers often exploit these kinds of vulnerabilities before most users have a chance to update.

Once we know all this, it's worth mentioning that we should install the latest available version, which is 143.0.7499.40/.41 for Windows and macOS, and 143.0.7499.40 for Linux. This is how we'll be protected. The easiest way to update is to allow Chrome to do it automatically. Simply access the application's main menu and go to Help / About Google Chrome.

From there, simply restart the program for the changes included in the patch to take effect. Finally, we'll mention that some of these security fixes also apply to other Chromium browsers, such as Brave, Edge, and Opera.
