Unlike general-purpose operating systems that try to support many hardware types equally, Solaris was deeply integrated with SPARC hardware, allowing it to achieve exceptional performance and reliability. This tight integration enabled advanced multiprocessing capabilities, making Solaris ideal for large enterprise servers with dozens or even hundreds of CPU cores. The operating system could efficiently distribute workloads across processors, which made it popular in scientific simulations, financial systems, and telecom infrastructure.
