TheDude @ LCS Postat Februarie 18 Postat Februarie 18 Solaris Zones and Virtualization Leadership Long before virtualization became mainstream, Solaris introduced Solaris Zones (also called Containers). Zones allow multiple isolated environments to run on a single Solaris kernel, each behaving like its own system. This technology is lightweight, efficient, and faster than traditional virtual machines because it does not require separate operating systems for each zone. Companies could run multiple applications securely on the same hardware, reducing costs and improving resource usage. Solaris Zones influenced later container technologies used across the industry. This made Solaris a pioneer in operating-system-level virtualization, years before tools like Docker became popular. SOURCE
