[★ Tutorial ★] ⚙ How to Fix Lag, High Ping, Loss & Choke on Our Zombie Server

Welcome, Zombie Players!
Many players enjoy our server but suffer from lag, high ping, or weird “rubber banding” when moving.
In this tutorial, we will show you step-by-step how to improve your connection and FPS so you can enjoy smooth gameplay on our Counter-Strike 1.6 Zombie server.

Green = Important note.

Yellow = Command game

First Step – Basic Checks

Close downloads & streams
 Stop any YouTube / torrents / updates running in the background.

Use cable instead of Wi-Fi if possible
 A simple LAN cable can reduce ping and packet loss a lot.

Restart your router sometimes
 If you feel the internet became unstable, a quick reboot can help.

Show Your Connection Info (net_graph)

Open CS 1.6.

Press ~ to open the console.

Type:

net_graph 3

Now you will see:

Ping (your delay)

Loss (packets not reaching you)

Choke (server wants to send more than your connection allows)

Goal: Ping as low as possible, loss 0%, choke 0%.

 

Recommended Network Settings

Open the console and write these commands (you can put them in userconfig.cfg too

rate 25000
cl_updaterate 101
cl_cmdrate 101
cl_cmdbackup 2
ex_interp 0.01

Explanation:

rate 25000 → how much data your CS receives from the server.

cl_updaterate 101 → how many updates per second you receive.

cl_cmdrate 101 → how many updates per second you send.

cl_cmdbackup 2 → keeps a small backup in case packets are lost.

ex_interp 0.01 → smoother player movement, less “warping”.

If your internet is very weak, you can try lower values like:
important!! cl_updaterate 60 and cl_cmdrate 60.

Improve FPS (for Low-End PCs)

Go to Options → Video and do:

Resolution: 800x600 or 1024x768.

Renderer: OpenGL (or D3D if it works better for you).

Turn VSync OFF.

Set all details to Low.

In console:

fps_max 99
gamma 3

Higher and stable FPS = smoother gameplay, easier aiming, less delay feeling.

If You Still Have Problems

If after all this you still have big lag / high loss:

Take a screenshot of your net_graph 3.

Tell us:

Your country / city

Your ping, loss, choke values

Your internet speed (approx.)

Post it here in a reply and Server Managers / Tech Team will try to help you personally.
